Genealogy
We are proud to provide access to the best genealogy and local history resources.
In addition to our online Birth, Marriage and Death Index and our online digital archives, we have listed a number of additional resources below.
Plus, we can answer genealogy requests for people who live outside of the area.
Ancestry.com Access
Ancestry.com Library Edition is available at the Main and St. Paul branches on library computers.
If you bring your own laptop or tablet to a Library Branch, you can also access Ancestry.com by logging into the wireless service at either branch.
Genealogy requests
Can I request genealogy information if I am not able to visit the Library? |
We will answer specific questions about Brant County genealogy and local history from non-residents by checking indexed resources and photocopy pertinent information. A limited amount of research can be done for each person. |
Is there a fee for a request? |
The $25 fee must be received along with a written request before any research is done. This fee includes 1-20 copies as well as research time and postage. When requesting birth, marriage, and death notices from the Expositor Index, the charge is per page copied not per name. We only accept payment by cheque or money order (payable to the Brantford Public Library). Birth, marriage, and death notices can be sent by regular mail or scanned and emailed once payment has been received. |
How do I request information? |
Requests can be made by contacting the Local History Department by email at localhistory@brantfordlibrary.ca Or by mail: Local History Department Brantford Public Library 173 Colborne Street Brantford, Ontario N3T 2G8 |
