Burton, John Robert
Sgt. John Robert Burton, R.R. 2, St. George, was fatally injured on March 18, 1945, in Belgium, when a jeep in which he was riding hit an obstruction. He was buried at Turnhout. Born in Islington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Burton (now deceased), John attended McLean's School in this district and, until he began his army career, followed the pursuit of farming. He enlisted as a driver-mechanic in the R.C.O.C., transferred later to the infantry and became a regimental policeman at Stratford. Overseas he was posted to the Canadian Provost Corps and promoted to sergeant. After the death of his parents, Sgt. Burton made his home with his brother, Leslie, in St. George.
