Dougherty, Leonard David
Sgt. Leonard David Dougherty lost his life in England on June 2, 1941, when after a bombing raid over Dusseldorf, Germany, his plane, badly crippled by enemy gun fire, was unable to land and crashed. The son of Mrs. David Johnstone, now residing in Hamilton, Leonard was born in Brantford on March 4, 1916, and was educated at King George School. He was a member of Marlboro United Church and his name is on its Cradle Roll. Enlisting in the R.C.A.F., in April, 1940, he graduated as a gunner from the No. 1 Bombing and Gunnery School, Jarvis, in November of that year, and left for overseas soon afterwards. He was 24 years of age at the time he made the supreme sacrifice. His two grandmothers, Mrs. J. Dougherty and Mrs. Emily Wright are well known citizens of this community.
