Miller, Orton Earl (Bud)

The capture of Cassino in Italy was at the cost of many Canadians, among them Pte. Orton Earl (Bud) Miller, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller, 128 Elgin Street. It was on May 23, 1944, and as a member of the famed Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry that the 23 - year - old Brantfordite gave his life for his country. Born in Brantford on November 30, 1921, he was educated at the King George and Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. After he grew up he was employed at the H. E. Mott Company, Ltd. He attended Marlboro United Church and Sunday School. Enlisting with the Brockville Rifles in May, 1942, the young soldier trained in various parts of Canada, as far west at Nanaimo, B.C., and as far east as Debert, N.S. He was moved overseas in February, 1943, to England. He then served in Africa and in Sicily before the action of the war moved on to Italy. Now he lies in the Canadian Cemetery at Cassino.
