Wylie, Raymond Edgar

Sgt. Raymond Edgar Wylie enlisted in the R.C.A.F. on July 11, 1941. During the following year, he pursued the intensive training course of a pilot. He studied the theory and put in the required number of flying hours, stationed at Toronto, Brantford, Belleville, Prince Albert and Saskatoon. On April 24, in 1942, he was "winged" as a sergeant pilot and was then attached to the R.A.F. Ferry Command. Going out on his first trip from Dorval just a year and a day after his enlistment, he was reported missing on July 12. A pilot's career full of promise was thus tragically ended. Born in Brantford in 1916, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wylie, 349 Erie Avenue, Raymond was educated at Bellview School and the Collegiate Institute where he matriculated. He was an excellent student; completing his junior course by the time he was 15 years of age. After his school days, he worked with his father on the home market garden and was completely satisfied and contented in his choice of employment and would, in all probability, have followed it always, if the war had not intervened. He attended Knox Sunday School and was also a member of the Y.M.C.A. On September 26, 1940, he was married to Miss Muriel Wills, who resides with her son, Gerald, at 33 Foster Street.
