Rowley, Frederick James

Pte. Frederick James Rowley was 22 years of age when he died on June 9, 1945, in Christie Street Hospital, Toronto, after a long journey that had begun when he was wounded on the battlefield of Holland on October 23, 1944, and had been interrupted for hospitalization in England. He was buried with full military honors in Mount Hope

Cemetery. On October 19, 1942, he had enlisted with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and after four months training at Camp Borden and Brantford, left for overseas the following March. He distinguished himself as a good soldier and in spite of his youth was a veteran in bravery and courage, having fought in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. The official end of his army career came with his honorable discharge on March 19, 1945. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred T. Rowley, 24 Norwich St., he was born on October 21, 1923. He attended Riverview and Ryerson Schools and later was employed at the Brantford Cordage Company, Ltd. He was a member of the Salvation Army Sunday School and played in the Young People's Band.
