Birks, William S.
F/S William S. (Bill) Birks grew up in Mount Pleasant, attending school in the village, and later became a student of the Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, graduating in 1941. In the next year he enlisted in the R.C.A.F., and was "winged" at Crumlin, Ont., in September 1943, being sent overseas almost immediately. Flying over France on July 18, 1944, he was lost, and, although nothing has been learned of the actual details of the flight, the news reached his family, who reside in Hamilton, that, for official purposes, he was presumed dead.
