Stewart, Neil McIntyre

W.O. 2 Neil McIntyre Stewart was a member of a well-known Paris family and when he lost his life in a flight over Germany, on February 19, 1944, a link was broken between the other six sons and four daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Stewart, 67 Capron Street, Paris. W.O. 2 Stewart was 20 years of age when he flew as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The night of his death, heavy icing conditions prevailed and it was thought his plane, on which he was an air gunner, was forced down at sea. Later his body was recovered by the Germans and it was placed at rest in Northern Holland. He was a popular member of the younger group in Paris, being an ardent sportsman, particularly interested in hockey and golf. So keen was his love of the last named game that when he was in England, after his graduation from Mont Joli, in March, 1943, he played on every possible occasion and found a great deal of enjoyment in the golf courses there, and also captured a camp trophy as a result of his skill. Born at Compeer, Alta., he came to Paris with his parents when a small child and later attended the Public and High Schools, and finally worked at the Sanderson and Harold Company, Limited. The same eager enthusiasm that made him a good golfer led him at the age of 18 into the service of his country in May, 1942.
