Browne, Stephen Henry Russell

LAC Stephen Henry Russell Browne's journey in the R.C.A.F. service was long. It carried him through Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and finally to Germany. In that far off last named country he was stricken with heart failure and died in his sleep on May 25, 1945. The role he played in the R.C.A.F. was not as dramatic as that of some of its men but it was none the less of vital importance, and his name, with the other war heroes, will be among those listed by history as making VE-Day possible. With full battle honors, as became an airman who had so generously served his country, he was buried by his comrades at Wintermoor, east of Bremen. LAC Browne, who was 42 years of age at the time of his death, enlisted on January 10, 1941. Two years later he was posted for overseas duty after training in Toronto, St. Thomas and Hagersville. Born in Brantford, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Browne, he moved in 1931 to Burford and there was employed as a mechanic in Balsdon's Garage. He was a member of the United Church. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Tpr. Douglas and Pte, Delmar (Bud) who followed in the service footsteps of their father, and three daughters, Wilma, Norma and Sharon, who are with their mother at 174? Drummond St., Brantford.
