Mulligan, Robert Ivan
Gnr. Robert Ivan Mulligan, Scotland, Ont., lost his life in Italy on December 13, 1944, after more than five years' service with the Canadian Army. He had enlisted almost as soon as the Second Great War began with the 54th Battery, R.C.A., and left for overseas on December 6, 1939. He was in France just before that country collapsed, escaping injury and going back to England where for the next three years he continued training until, with the 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.C.A., he took part in the Sicilian Campaign in July, 1943. It was late in the next year that he made the supreme sacrifice in Italy and his comrades mourning the loss of a good friend and a seasoned, experienced soldier buried him at Villanova. Born in Hartford, Ont., October 30, 1906, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Mulligan, he received his education at the Hartford and Bealton Public Schools. Afterwards, he farmed with his father and then moved to Saskatchewan where
he continued farming. He then went on to the Peace River District, in Alberta, and homesteaded until he returned home in 1938, at the time of his father's death. Here he remained until his enlistment in the army. He married the former Miss Mildred Anderson.
