Sharp, Clarence

Spr. Clarence Sharp enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers in the early days of the Second Great War. He had moved to the Burford district in 1936 from Toronto and in his three years of residence had come to be well and favorably known by his neighbors. After a few months' training, Spr. Sharp was moved overseas in May, 1940, and he continued in England until August 19, 1942, when he took part in the raid on Dieppe and lost his life. The R.C.E. had a mammoth task that day. The first task was to clear the beach of mines, mark it with white tape, blast sections out of the wall which ran the length of the main trance to the streets leading from the Esplanade into the town proper. The Allied world knows today how bravely the men did their job. Spr. Sharp lies buried in France. Surviving him are his widow and two daughter's, Betty and Margaret, who now reside in Magnetewan, Ont.
