Shaw, Arthur E.
Enlisting in the R.C.A.F., June, 1940, F/O Arthur E. Shaw proceeded overseas as a wireless air gunner in March, 1941, and was killed in action November 25, 1943, at the age of 21. A few months previous to his death he was Mentioned in Dispatches for devotion to duty, having risked his life by shutting off his own supply of oxygen when his plane was at a great height, to assure enough oxygen to protect the lives of the rest of his bomber crew. He was on many important operational raids, including the carrying of paratroops to enemy held points on the Continent. "Tubby", as he was sometimes called, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Shaw, and attended Paris High School for four years and was active in Paris juvenile hockey and lacrosse. At the time of his death, he had just recently volunteered for service with the R.A.F. in North Africa. A sister, L/Cpl.
Edith, and a brother, Gnr. James, were with the Canadian Armed forces.
