Pollard, Edward Walter

F/O Edward Walter Pollard, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pollard, 206 William St., lost his life in the service of the R.C.A.F., when his plane was shot down over the Bay of Bengal on March 26, 1945. F/O Pollard had almost three and a half years' service to his credit, and his Air Force career, begun in September, 1941, was a highly successful one. He had been trained in Toronto and Trenton and graduated as a wireless air gunner from the Fingal School. Among the "jobs" assigned to him were two trips to the Alaska Highway on transport planes. He was posted overseas in 1944 and served in India and England. Born in Kitchener, in May, 1919, Edward lived in Brantford most of his life, being educated at Victoria School and the Collegiate Institute. He attended St. Andrew's Church. His favorite hobby was raising pigeons and he was keenly interested in different breeds. He was also active in the Brantford Boys' Band and was one of its cornetists. Married to the former Miss Eleanor Chalk, he is also survived by a daughter, Sandra.
