Burnham, Elwood Martin

Pte. Elwood Martin Burnham was killed in action on March 19, 1945, in Germany. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burnham, Ohsweken, he was educated at the Six Nations day schools, the Mohawk Institute, and the Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. Elwood enlisted in the United States Army on August 28, 1944, and went overseas the following January. His family has an outstanding record of service, his sister, Rosalie, being a member of the W.D. of the R.C.A.F., his brother, Walter, with the United States Army Medical Corps, and his brother, John, an LAC in the R.C.A.F.

He was a very clever artist and pianist and while at the Collegiate Institute specialized in painting the school posters. He was a member of St. Peter's Anglican Church. While in the United States Army Infantry he received medals for proficiency in rifle shooting and grenade work. Besides his family already mentioned he is mourned by his widow, Mrs.

Hazel Burnham.
