Dennis, William Lewis

F/O William Lewis Dennis, second son of Mrs. G. H. Dennis, 13 Cayuga Street, was reported missing on January 16, 1945, after his plane failed to return to base on a flight over Magdeburg, Germany. His family learned, after the conquest of Germany, that he was buried 30 miles from Hanover. Enlisting with the R.C.A.F., on December 18, 1942, F/O Dennis trained at Hamilton and Toronto, and received his navigator's wings and his commission at Crumlin, Ont., on December 23, a year later. He was transferred overseas in April, 1944. Born in Brantford, on March 31, 1923, Bill Dennis grew to be well and favorably known. He was educated at King Edward Public School and the Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. When he graduated, his choice of a career was banking, and at the time of his enlistment he was one of the most popular members of the staff of the Bank of Nova Scotia. He made many friends among the bank's customers because of his unfailing good humor and courtesy. In his church, which was Wesley United, and in the Sunday School, he was active and interested. He was President of the Young

People's Society and also a member of the Tennis Club. At the time of his death he was engaged to marry Miss Elizabeth Emigh, Toronto, and they had planned to wed on his return from overseas service.
