Hall, David Cecil Everett
While leading a survey party from the Highland Light Infantry, Galt, Cpl. David Cecil Everett Hall, 20 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil A. Hall, Burford, Ont., was killed in action on March 31, 1945, in Germany, near Emmerich, after the Allied crossing of the Rhine River. He is buried at Vrasselt, Germany. In heavy action since the previous October, Cpl. Hall had survived some excessive fighting. He had enlisted in August, 1943, and after his preliminary training in Toronto and Petawawa, was moved overseas late in June, 1944. His capacity for leadership was recognized by his superior officers and at the time of his death he was acting sergeant. His gallantry will long be remembered by his comrades. Cpl. Hall was well and favorably known in Burford where he grew up and after graduating from the Burford High School, he continued at the Collegiate Institute in Brantford. He had a great deal of community interest for a young lad, being a member of the Holy Trinity Church, singing in the choir, belonging to the Boy Scouts and also finding time for a paper route and writing a column of school news for the Burford Advance. He had planned a career in law and worked for a time in the Slingsby Manufacturing Company's office.
