Bailey, William Alexander

P/O William Alexander Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Bailey, 292 West St., was known to his many friends here as Bill, and when news that he was missing after air operations was received on May 23, 1944, the grief of his family was widely shared. He was only 19 years of age, when he graduated from the No. 1 A.O.S. at Malton as an air navigator and it was following a natural bent that made him a soldier of the skies, because he had loved outdoor life, particularly when it took him into the woods and beside the river of the district as he followed his hunting and fishing interests. He had been educated in Brantford and Woodstock, attending the Collegiates in both cities and, upon graduation from the local school; he began what he planned to be a business career in the office of the Slingsby Manufacturing Company, Ltd. While P/O Bailey was officially presumed dead on June 13, 1945, his family mourns the fact that thus far they have no news of his burial place.
