Cole, Albert George
L/Cpl. Albert George Cole, son of Mrs. Ethel Cole, 88 Aberdeen Ave., was another of Brantford's soldiers on the list of casualties that came after the raid on Dieppe, France, on August 19, 1942. He was buried near Calais. His death, at the age of 28 years, closed an army career begun some years previously when he joined the 2/10 Dragoons (N.P.A.M.). For 11 years he served as a sergeant in his unit and after his arrival overseas was awarded the Long Service Medal. Going on active duty on April 6, 1940, L/Cpl. Cole joined the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry and after training at Camp Borden for three months was moved overseas in July. Born in Brantford, December 7, 1914, Albert attended Bellview School. He was a member of Wesley United Church and of its Young People's Society. For 11 years he was employed at the Watson Manufacturing Co. Besides his work and his church life, his keenest interest was in his army activities and his service was efficient and faithful. A good athlete, he was most proficient in the art of swimming. In 1920, his father, Mr. George Cole, passed away.
