Hicks, Montague Croft

Pte. Montague Croft Hicks, second son of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Hicks, 35 Kennedy St., enlisted early in 1940, and after receiving extensive training for a year, was discharged because of ill health. Undaunted, Pte. Hicks, after almost a year of illness, was sufficiently recovered to re-enlist in September of 1942, and, after training in Simcoe and Toronto, went overseas in the following year. He was in England only a few weeks and then moved into action in Italy and lost his life at Anagni, in the Liri Valley, on May 29, 1944. He was buried in Cassino in the permanent military cemetery. Institute and Sydenham United Church. He was very active in the Young People's Society. He was so young when he first entered the army's service that he had had no opportunity to establish himself in a job. To mourn him besides his parents, are his widow and one son, Monty John.
