Luard, Richard Aubrey

P/O Richard Aubrey Luard, youngest son of Mr., and Mrs. A. D. C. Luard, Burford, lost his life while on an experimental flight from Debert to Windsor in a Hudson bomber on

October 23, 1941, and thus Burford lost one of its fine young citizens. Born on June 20, 1915, Aubrey was educated in the Public and High Schools at Burford, at the Hamilton Normal School, the O.A.C., University of Western Ontario and at the Hamilton Technical School. He then taught school at Salem, Burford, and Brant School, near Cainsville. Well and popularly known in his village, he was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, where he was active in the A.Y.P.A., and where he organized and was the Scout Master of a Boy Scout Troop. Enlisting in the R.C.A.F., in November, 1940, he was trained at Toronto, St. Thomas, Eglinton, Malton and Penfield, N.B., and graduated first in his class receiving his navigator's wings in August, 1941. He was then transferred to the R.A.F.

Ferry Command. P/O Luard was a grandson of Admiral Sir William G. Luard, Essex, England, and grandson of Major Thomas Lloyd-Jones, Burford.
