Ludlow, Michael Thomas Robert Howard

F/O Michael Thomas Robert Howard Ludlow, 20, eldest son of Major P. H. Ludlow, and Mrs. Ludlow, Broadfields, Cainsville, like many other eager young citizens, answered the call to service to King and country in the early months of the war. He left the Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School when he was only 17 and enlisted in the

R.C.A.F., in June, 1940. After training in Toronto, St. Thomas and Dunnville in ground crew work, he remustered, as soon as he was old enough, into aircrew and, after following the prescribed course at Toronto and Dunnville, graduated as a pilot, receiving his wings and commission from the last named school on August 14, 1942. He moved overseas in November and shortly thereafter became attached to the Bomber Command. On August 9, 1943, flying with the famed Moose Squadron, F/O Ludlow was on his 22nd flight and his target was Mannheim, Germany, when he was reported missing. He had come to Canada and Brantford with his parents in 1928, when he was a small boy, and almost as soon as the family became identified with the community, Michael's interest in planes was manifest. He began by building model aircraft and had much talent for his hobby. Before his 10th birthday he was flying as a passenger at the Brant-Norfolk Aero Club. His other outdoor interest was golf, a sport he continued into his Air Force days. A member of Grace Anglican Church, he sang in the choir.
